Estimator/Project Manager

Job Description:

Apex has spent the past 25 years specializing in the planning, design, installation and service of industrial and commercial refrigeration systems. Our projects include process cooling and ammonia refrigeration for food-processing plants, beverage-production facilities, cold-storage warehouses and distribution centers. We also specialize in refrigeration and heating systems that are used in commercial settings, such as for schools, office buildings, universities, churches, medical facilities, multi-family housing, ice rinks and more.

This role involves all aspects of the estimating and bidding process for mechanical and refrigeration systems. The job includes reviewing bid specs/plans, obtaining quotes from the relevant suppliers and subcontractors, evaluation of labor requirement, and developing accurate take-offs that will result in well executed cost/project management. The Estimator will have the opportunity to partner with our service and project departments to incorporate project management skills and see their bids through to completion in the field.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of mechanical/refrigeration/HVAC estimating experience
  • Ability to read and understand Mechanical, Refrigeration and HVAC plans and specifications
  • Familiar with codes, practices, and concepts of Refrigeration/HVAC systems
  • Familiarity with executing project take-offs
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling projects, managing resources
  • Demonstrate solid verbal, written, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCad, Revit and/or other related computer software
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues
  • Effective participation in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Ability to walk large project sites, climb ladders and use catwalks

Responsibilities

  • Develop bid packages
  • Perform takeoffs and proposals for industrial and commercial facilities
  • Review design documents for proper information to receive accurate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, generate acceptable value engineering ideas, and prepare life cycle costing
  • Review and validate subcontractor proposal pricing
  • Manage change-order process with the client
  • Maintain strong customer communication throughout the project inception to its completion
  • Maintains a strong safety program within Company standards
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of project
  • Ability to work with the customer to find mutually satisfactory solutions to difficult issues
